Dental Implants: A permanent solution for missing teeth, dental implants involve titanium posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone. These posts act as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for artificial teeth or crowns. Implants are designed to fuse with the bone through osseointegration, ensuring durability and longevity similar to natural teeth.
Bone Grafting: This procedure is vital for rebuilding and strengthening the jawbone, especially in cases where bone density has been compromised. Bone grafting may be required before placing dental implants or when bone loss has occurred due to injury, disease, or periodontal issues. The graft material, which can be natural or synthetic, encourages the growth of new bone, restoring the jaw’s structural integrity.
Wisdom Teeth Removal: The extraction of wisdom teeth, the final set of molars that typically emerge in late adolescence or early adulthood, is often necessary to avoid complications. If they become impacted or grow at an awkward angle, these molars can cause pain, infection, or misalignment of other teeth. Early removal can prevent these issues and promote better oral health.
Corrective (Orthognathic) Jaw Surgery: This type of surgery addresses jaw irregularities that affect both function and appearance. It is commonly used to correct bite misalignments, allowing for improved chewing, speaking, and breathing. By repositioning the jawbones, the surgery not only enhances aesthetic facial symmetry but also contributes to overall health improvements.
Surgically Assisted Orthodontics: Combining surgical procedures with traditional orthodontic treatment, this approach is particularly beneficial for patients with severe dental crowding or misalignment. The surgery accelerates tooth movement, reducing the overall treatment time and achieving desired results more efficiently. This method is often used in conjunction with braces or clear aligners.
Sedation Options: Sedation involves the use of medication to help patients relax during their procedures. At Long Island Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we offer a range of sedation options tailored to meet individual patient needs, ensuring a calm and comfortable experience. Our facility is accredited by the AAAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities), reflecting our commitment to the highest standards of patient safety and care.
Oral Pathology: This specialized field involves the study and diagnosis of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. Oral pathology is crucial for identifying conditions such as oral cancers, cysts, and infections. Through detailed examination and analysis, oral pathologists play a key role in the early detection and treatment of potentially serious health issues.
TMJ Treatment: Focusing on alleviating pain and improving function, treatments for temporomandibular joint disorders address issues related to jaw movement and alignment. Options may include therapeutic exercises, medication, or surgical intervention, depending on the severity of the disorder. These treatments aim to restore normal jaw function and relieve discomfort associated with TMJ disorders.
